Evangelical Establishment Endorsements of CEF
Southern Baptist Convention
Dr. Frank Page, President of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) from 2006-2008 and
again from 2010-2012, issued a press release describing CEF as a “partner,” promoting the Good
News Club and noting that the South Carolina church he pastored sponsored two such clubs at
public elementary schools.
Missouri Baptist Convention
On March 2, 2005, Missouri Baptist Convention Executive Director Dr. David
Clippard endorsed CEF in a letter on MBC’s letterhead to MBC’s pastors. Clippard effused
that “CEF produces some of the best teaching materials for children’s workers that you
will find anywhere,” and that MBC had used CEF’s wordless books and tracts for years.
Clippard urged pastors to find out more about CEF, “welcome” CEF representatives into
their churches, and partner with them.
Evangelical Free Church of America
On May 23, 2005, Evangelical Free Church of America President William J. Hamel
endorsed CEF in a letter on EFCA’s letterhead to EFCA’s pastors. Hamel wrote of his
excitement of CEF’s “desire to reach into every public elementary school in the United
States to share the good news of Jesus Christ with boys and girls.” Hamel encouraged
churches to partner with CEF: CEF’s “vision is to partner with the local church to bring the
Gospel into schools around the nation..... and is worthy of your consideration.”
American Family Association
In an August 25, 2010 article, American Family Association President Tim Wildon expressed
that it “is amazing to discover how CEF is reaching literally millions of children each year, even
on public school campuses. They deserve the support of churches and individual believers as
well.”
Focus on the Family’s Jean Daly
Jean Daly, wife of Focus on the Family Jim Daly, gave a video
message to a recent CEF conference effusing over 5½ years of her
childhood experiences at a neighborhood Good News Club.
